Looks like Wilco is sidestepping the major studios and following Radiohead?s example, as the band has announced that they will release their eighth studio album, The Whole Love, all by themselves on September 27th. The disc will be the first release for their new label, dBpm.
It?s a move that more and more large-scale rock band?s are making?using their status and large financial backing to release records on their own, and not having to deal with major label entanglements.
And, as for the album itself, Rolling Stone has the scoop:
?The Whole Love includes the band?s new garage rock-inspired single ?I Might,? as well as a seven-minute track, ?Art of Almost,? which starts with shadowy electronics, gently turns into a haunted vocal section, then sprints into a Krautrock-style blowout. Other numbers, such as spectral ballad ?Black Moon? and the jaunty title track, call back to the group?s roots in country rock.?
So if gigantic bands can now release albums on their own, could we ask that other major bands, conversely, never ever release another piece of music ever again? Black Eyed Peas, I?m looking your way.
What do you think of Wilco?s decision to self release their new record?
