When Beyoncé fired her manager father Mathew Knowles in March, she kept her reasons to herself. Did she believe that her own father was stealing from her? Sure seems that way. New documents obtained by TMZ reveal that Mathew was accused of taking money from his superstar daughter -- a claim that he plans to fight in court.
According to Mathew's legal filing, Live Nation Entertainment (the production and marketing company that co-sponsors Beyoncé's tours) plotted against Mathew in order to get a bigger share of Beyoncé's profits. Mathew alleges that Live Nation told his daughter that he "had stolen money from Beyoncé on her most recent tour or otherwise taken funds that (he) was not entitled to." This accusation, Mathew says, led directly to Beyoncé firing him -- after an audit by her lawyer concluded that Mathew had indeed misappropriated tour funs.
But even though the audit found him guilty, Mathew insists the charges against him are false. As proof of the conspiracy, he says that Beyoncé replaced him with a manager who was a former executive at Live Nation, and still worked with the company. Knowles is now requesting that a judge allow him to interview Live Nation employees, to find out where the accusation originated.
Mathew Knowles had been Beyoncé's manager since she was 8 years old; in 1995, he quit his job as a medical-equipment salesman to manage her singing group Destiny's Child full-time. In April, Mathew claimed that Beyonce's decision to hire new management was "strategic," and had been planned for months. Until Beyoncé weighs in, we won't know if she was cutting her father loose because he betrayed her -- or if she was simply trying to be an "independent woman."
