We can?t believe that Sunday has already past us by and what an amazing day of music it was at the Outside Lands Music Festival. As with any music festival you never know what surprises a set could have instore and we have to say that Mavis Staples may have had the most shocking set and guests of the day.
The woman who has been doing music for over 60 years got Arcade Fire?s front man, Win Butler, to join her band in a rendition of The Bands, ?The Weight?. While many were waiting in line for the wonderful gourmet food being served on the grounds, we were glad to have been watching a legend joined by a man who is already becoming a legend in his own right. Even though he didn?t join their set there was a lot of legendary tunes that John Fogerty fit into his hour set. If the classics weren?t your thing there was also powerful horns provided byBeirutand powerful layers of vocals by the face painted tUnE-yArDs.
Grouplove decided to play until the plug was pulled, and the staff did have to pull the plug, much to the chagrin of the packed crowd. And everyone that caught a bit of Charles Bradley?s set learned a few new dance moves that would even give James Brown a run for his money.
Fromgraffitiart, animal costumes, stilt walkers, face painters, tie-dyed shirts, and hula-hoop dancing Sunday brought out all the Bay Area has to offer and all of its most fanatic music fans for the final day of Outside Lands 2011.
