Hard rockin? Rob Zombie, director of flicks like The Devil?s Rejects and House Of 1,000 Corpses, is back with yet another scary project ? a television ad for Woolite laundry detergent!

Perhaps not the pairing one might guess where consumer marketing is concerned, but big applause is in order for Team Woolite thinking outside the box, and to Zombie for taking on the creative challenges of laundry soap.

See Rob Zombie?s Woolite ad below!

Part of a big-budget marketing campaign known as ?The Torturer,? Zombie?s first TV ad is displayed on Woolite?s Facebook page and will be shown in theaters during the July 4 weekend. The television ad begins mid-July through the end of the year.

There are actually two versions of the commercial: a darker one for Facebook and movie theaters, and a milder one for television.

To capture the horror of the damage detergents can sometimes do to clothes, Woolite wanted to incorporate the types of cues and techniques found in horror movies.

Enter Rob Zombie. If ever Woolite wanted to shake things up in the laundry detergent category, having horror movie director Zombie, responsible for the rebooted Halloween and Halloween II movies in recent years, take the reins is bound to do the trick.

There?s no voice-over in the ads, just the kinds of scary music, scary lighting and scary-as-hell bad guy that usually equals quality horror entertainment. The ad features a clothes torturer, who takes out his villainy on clothes and not people, thank goodness; using an array of fun torture devices, the bad guy exposes the effects of some regular heavy-duty detergents, by dramatizing stretching, fading and shrinking. And we all know how annoying that can be.

The tagline for the commercial ? ?Don?t let detergents torture your clothes. Save them with Woolite.? ? highlights the brand?s horror movie approach to underscore the ?horror? of the damage detergents can sometimes do to clothes.

?For consumers to view Woolite in a completely new way, we needed to talk to them in a new way,? said Rahul Sabnis, Executive Creative Director, Euro RSCG Worldwide, the agency behind the campaign.

Sabnis added: ?We started with an intriguing cultural mash-up: Rob Zombie and Woolite ? a juxtaposition that?s completely unique to the category.

Zombie told the New York Times he made the commercial ?more like a Tim Burton? film than something truly horrifying. Zombie added that the main character, who is shown tormenting the clothes not washed in Woolite, ?is like Uncle Fester,? referring to the character from ?The Addams Family,? and not ?like some child killer out in the woods.?
