Nirvana?s memorable 1991 album Nevermind will be reissued in a mega Super Deluxe Edition on September 19. And to further prove just how fast time flies, the deluxe edition marks 20 years after the original was released.
Containing four CDs and one DVD, the Super Deluxe Edition will feature previously unreleased tracks, rarities, B-sides, alternate mixes, rare live recordings and BBC radio appearances. The DVD will be made up of an entire unreleased Nirvana concert.
Nirvana, the trio comprised of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, rose to major stardom behind Nevermind, which reached the No. 1 slot on Billboard?s U.S. sales chart and has sold more than 30 million albums in the 20 years since its release.
Produced by Butch Vig, it was the second studio album from Nirvana and featured ?Smells Like Teen Spirit,? complete with wildly popular music video back when music videos still carried a lot of weight.
?The cultural shift Nirvana?s Nevermind initiated was felt instantly on release,? reads the statement from Universal Music, which is releasing the deluxe version. ?The profundity and depth of that shift becomes even more apparent when seen through the prism of the two decades of art and music created in its wake.?
If you happen to find yourself in Seattle and you love Nirvana, then for sure check out EMP Museum?s Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses. The exhibition runs April 16, 2011 ? April 22, 2013 and features ?the world?s most extensive exhibition of memorabilia celebrating the music and history of Seattle grunge luminaries, Nirvana.? The exhibit features rare and unseen artifacts and photography from the band, their crews and families.
The 20th anniversary of Nirvana will be marked throughout the year with various events and releases.
Do you think you?ll grab a copy of the reissued Nevermind?
