Long live the three-day weekend. Need we say more? Probably, so here goes? this weekend?s concerts, as per the usual formula, are eclectic and all over the place ? messy, the preferred way of doing things. From remixes to retro experimental rock to pop with electronic and house influences, we?ve got your bases covered in a number of ways. So check ?em out already!

Map | Sick remix specialist The Chaotic Good (hooray, Dungeons & Dragons reference) ? aka Jake Carpenter ? has reworked everything from Bruno Mars to Daft Punk, giving the same attention and skill to original work as others?. Carpenter is currently on tour through the month of July in support of any recognized fabulousness, including but not limited to work on his debut EP Synesthetic, which you can download for free here. - Red Pony Clock | Friday, May 27 | 9:00 pm | $5 | The Smell, Los Angeles, CA ? Map | Holy experimental but otherwise wholly unspecified genre, Batman? Red Pony Clock is quite possibly the most smorgasboard-esque sound we?ve heard from a band that manages to make complete and utter sense within our brains. They give us a familiar measure and beat structure but manage to throw a curve that both shocks and amazes, melodically, instrumentally. It?s almost like going to a Japanese restaurant and instead of going for the familiar ramen, going instead with the takoyaki (octopus testicles, and yes, they?re delicious). Map | A little bit of punk, a bit of funky, quirky rock (a la the B-52s and our friends The Monolators, we should say), the Brooklyn-based [by way of Boston] band is a tasty, sizable morsel of what was and what still is complex and layered in the world of music, and we love them hella lots for their balls-y vocal/melodic maneuvers. - Gypsyblood | Saturday, May 28 | 9:00 pm | 18+ | $8 in advance, $12 day of show | Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL ? Map | Noisy, chaotic, structured rock fused with most every element under the sun ? that would be Gypsyblood, at least from what we?ve gained from listening to their album Cold in the Guestway, which you can stream ? and purchase ? here.� We?re picking up a lot of influences but are appreciating the range of energy that makes it very self-sufficient and self-specific. Map | The Chicago-based eclectic pop electronic outfit is indeed a glittery popular sound that manages to lift us up from the ground by our ears via layers instrumentals and strategic lyric content and placement.
