Emma Stone in mustardy Roland Mouret: pretty or fug?

fp_7831094_chp_celebs_deauville_14_16

Emma Stone and the cast of The Help are attending the Deauville Film Festival, and these are some photos from the opening night ceremony, and from the photo call for The Help. I guess The Help hasn?t been released internationally yet? Sure. Emma wore Roland Mouret for the opening ceremony - that?s the mustardy-brownish gown. She wore the short black & white Dolce & Gabbana for the photo call. First, thoughts on the Mouret? I think Mouret is just trying to change things up because he?s tired of Victoria Beckham copying everything he does. But I do like the style of the dress - it reminds me of what Ungaro was doing a decade ago, and I really liked Ungaro back then. My only complaint is the color. In the South, we refer to that color as ?baby sh-t?. Why not red or blue or green or white? Eh. The D&G is cute though. At this point, I consider it a ?win? when Emma isn?t wearing some weird biscuit dust ruffle.

Speaking of Emma, did you read The Daily Beast piece on Emma?s rise in popularity? The guy who wrote it says that Emma is so popular these days because she reminds us of Linnocent, and Emma basically has the career that Linnocent should have, if Linnocent hadn?t snorted her opportunities years ago. I don?t agree with the piece at all, but it?s an interesting theory. Go here to read the piece. The Hollywood Reporter also has a decent interview with the cast of The Help in Deauville here.

Michael Jackson Family Announces Tribute Concert

Lineup for October show in Cardiff, Wales, will be revealed August 3.

Michael Jackson's family has announced a tribute concert to the late King of Pop that is slated to take place on October 8 in Cardiff, Wales. The four-hour show at the 75,000-capacity Millennium Stadium will be broadcast via satellite on pay-per-view and into movie theaters with a cast of big-name performers whose identities have not yet been revealed.

At the Beverly Hills press conference on Monday revealing the details of the "Michael Forever" show, Jackson family matriarch Katherine was joined by sons Tito, Jackie and Marlon and daughter LaToya; siblings Jermaine, Randy, Janet and estranged husband Joe were not in attendance.

"When I was told some of the names of the artists performing, I knew it would be fit for a king. If my son was here today he would feel the same way, and so I'd like to say thank you very much for helping to keep my son's legacy alive," Katherine Jackson said of Michael, who died in June 2009 of a heart attack caused by a prescription drug overdose.

According to Wales Online, the show will feature artists Jackson admired and will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the start of his solo career.

"I will be there along with as many members of my family that can make it," Katherine said. "It is intended to be the biggest and best concert in the world for many years to come." LaToya added, "This event is far, far overdue. He was an entertainer who I feel no one can ever stand up to or hold a candle to as far as his talent is concerned. This tribute will be something spectacular and I know that he would approve."

One of the show's producers said that despite taking place in a large stadium, the event will have a more intimate atmosphere with the building's roof closed. Proceeds from the show will benefit three charities Jackson supported: the Prince's Trust, AIDS Project Los Angeles and a cancer charity. The show's lineup will be announced on August 3.

As with many things related to MJ's legacy, there was controversy, as brothers Randy and Jermaine said they thought the timing of the show was inappropriate. In a statement, the two said, "While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael's death. As everyone knows, those proceedings commence September 20."

That date is when Jackson's former doctor, Conrad Murray, is slated to go on trial for manslaughter charges in the singer's death.

Jermaine attempted to put on a tribute concert to his late brother in September 2009, but the show fell apart after many of the top acts were unable to commit to the event.

'Man Of Steel' Seen Up Close In New Set Photos

Shots of Henry Cavill on set give a detailed look of new Superman suit.
By Terri Schwartz

Henry Cavill in "Man of Steel"
Photo: Warner Bros

"Man of Steel" is taking a decidedly different turn from previous Superman films. Lois Lane is a redhead. Laurence Fishburne is playing the first non-white Perry White. And those red underpants are long gone.

Based on the latest set photos that have hit the Web, Superman's suit has gotten a serious update as well. The first image of Henry Cavill as Superman was released earlier this month, but his position in the shot made it hard to get a complete look at the suit. These new stills offer the first up-close, full-body looks at the outfit in Zack Snyder's Superman movie, and the response to the new look has been positive so far.

SuperHeroHype compiled the photos, which show Cavill walking around on the set in between takes. The suit has a lot more texture than Superman's outfits in previous films, and also has added new accents, including silvery lines that wrap around the torso, and go up the back and down the legs.

This new take on Superman's look seems a lot more Kryptonian than the ones made famous by Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh. It's darker and more subdued hues and stylized form make it look a lot more alien than other manifestations of the suit. Also worth noting is the fact that Cavill isn't wearing his red cape in many of these pictures, which means there's a chance that the cape could be CGI for part of the movie. Of course, he also could have just taken the cape off between takes.

For fans still complaining about the lack of red underpants in Snyder's "Man of Steel," it should be noted that the decision is reflective of Superman's new costume in the DC Comics reboot that kicked off on Wednesday.

Check out everything we've got on "Man of Steel."

I liked the book version of I Don?t Know How She Does It, but I have my concerns about the movie, if only because every time I see the ad, I feel like three-fourths of the actors in it are unintelligible (not SPJ, but Christina Hendricks, whom I of course otherwise love). I also kind of feel like watching a lady try to juggle her nanny, her hot husband, her high-powered job, and her fancy fancy wardrobe might have felt more enjoyable before everyone?s bank accounts burst into flames. I do know how she does it: she works her ass off, and she has help, and she doesn?t sleep. BUT ANYWAY:

I don?t know how she does THIS, but I kind of like it. I wish it were only yellow and black, though ? to me, the pink feels a bit like birthday cake frosting.

Usher Collaborator Rico Love Calls Kelly Rowland's 'Motivation' 'Truly Organic'

Lil Wayne 'jumped on it,' Raymond v. Raymond writer tells Mixtape Daily.
By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rob Markman

Behind the Beats: Rico Love

If more people read the credits behind some of R&B's biggest hits, Rico Love should be a household name. Born Richard Preston Butler Jr., the former Florida A&M University student is now one of the music industry's most-sought-after singer/songwriters.

After writing hits for Usher ("There Goes My Baby"), Beyoncé ("Sweet Dreams") and Diddy-Dirty Money ("Hello Good Morning"), to name a few, one of Rico's biggest hits to date is Kelly Rowland's "Motivation."

"It came about in a truly organic way," Rico told Mixtape Daily of the Jim Jonsin-produced "Motivation." "We had this meeting in New York: myself and Sylvia [Rhone] and Kelly. And they just were saying, 'We need to find that single; we need that big single.' Everybody was asking for an uptempo, actually.

"I flew down to Miami the next day, and that Tuesday, we got back in the studio, and Jim started playing these chords, and then coming up with these little sounds — the signature sounds that Jim comes up with. I just told him to lay it like a skeleton idea, and I jumped in the booth, and I started with the verse, and I kind of sang my way all the way through the record."

Rowland, formerly of Destiny's Child, was in the studio while Rico was laying down the reference track and made her regard for the song known immediately. "Kelly was there and watched the whole process," Rico recalled. "As soon as I finished singing the demo, usually an artist wants to live with it or listen to it for a little while. She just said, 'I want to cut it right now.' So she jumped in the booth, and we cut the record."

"Motivation" became the lead single for Rowland's third album, Here I Am, which was released in April. The song, which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, features a verse from Lil Wayne.

"Lil Wayne got out of jail a few days later, and as soon as he got out of jail, [Rowland] went to see him, and he jumped on it," Rico explained. "It was the most organized situation ever. It was nothing contrived about it."

There's been nothing manufactured about Rico's accomplishments either. Starting his musical career as a rapper, he has signed former Roc-a-Fella rapper Young Chris to his Universal/Motown-distributed Division 1 label.

After leaving Florida A&M to pursue music, Rico caught the attention of Usher, and penned songs for the R&B singer, including "Throwback." Other artists soon benefitted from his songwriting, including T.I., Pleasure P and Mario. Rico takes pride in being versatile with his talents, preferring not to make specific songs intended for specific artists only.

"Sometimes, when you keep an artist in mind, you'll limit yourself," Rico explained. "You won't go a place that they probably would go because you're thinking, "Nah, she wouldn't say this," or "He wouldn't do this," or "He wouldn't say this," and "This melody is out of the way for them."

"When I get a chance to just get into the studio and just write music and just produce music and sit at the piano and tell a guy where I want to hear the chords and create the progressions and just freely make music, it's a lot more fun."

Lately, Rico has been back in the studio with Usher. In 2007, he was signed to the singer's former US Records via J Records. But his debut album was never released, and he and Usher went their separate ways.

But as Rico become a songwriting force, the two eventually started working together again. The first song they recorded was the Grammy-winning "There Goes My Baby" from 2010's Raymond v. Raymond. Now, Rico is working on Usher's forthcoming album and embracing the pressure of surpassing its predecessor's platinum sales and critical success.

"I feel like this is what separates the boys from the men," Rico said of working with Usher. "This week, we been creating records together. We had two mics, two headphones set up in the booth, and we just sit there and vibe out.

"These first few days have been amazing. We got four records cut so far that sound super amazing. I'm super excited about it. I'm just anxious for the world to hear it."

its Imogen Thomas in a bikini, plus Site News!

imogen_thomas_bikini_calendar_shoot

UK model Imogen Thomas is in Marbella, Spain, today to finish up her 2012 calendar by taking pictures of her in and then not in a bikini. It?s a good thing only girls have boobs. If the sun had tits this fantastic I?d be blind after spending ages 12 through Now staring directly into it.

Speaking of glorious human achievements; this website! I know things have been a little stagnant and slow lately, but it?s not because I?m lazy. It?s not entirely because I?m lazy. Okay it?s because I?m lazy. Oh what, like you?re so great? GET OFF MY BACK! But it?s also because I?ve been trying to reinvent the page, to add way more content, make it easier to navigate and look at celebrity boobs, but with all the same mean spirited whining you?ve come to expect.

As part of that process I spent all day yesterday in the LA offices of the giant faceless entity that owns the site, and after apologizing to everyone I?ve ever worked with for being an intractable dickhead prone to temper tantrums when I don?t get my way, everything was basically set up and laid out to make the site a billion times better. So please bear with me. Or ?bare? with me, whichever one it is. I?m sure someone will go on my twitter and correct me. Which I?ll ignore. Go hump your dictionary if you love it so much, jackass.

Madonna Confirms That Her New Album Will Be Out Next Spring

Madonna Confirms That Her New Album Will Be Out Next Spring

"I think the first single is, I?m not sure, February or March"

Earlier this week we saw photos of the QUEEN Madonna in Venice, Italy for the 68th Annual Venice International Film Festival where her new film W.E. was world premiered (to, unfortunately, not great reviews) and while she was being interviewed about the film, questions about her new album came up. In the course of Maddy?s interviews, she confirmed that she is working with William Orbit on the new disc. She also confirmed that the album?s first single is due out in February or March and the album itself will be released in the Spring. To this news I say, WOOOOOOT!!!!

Madonna talked about her next single and new album during a few promo interviews for W.E. During the press conference at the Venice Film Festival, she was asked about when her next album would be released, but she decided to ignore the question. First, she said : ?My new album will mark a new change again.? And now, in a couple of TV interviews, she surprisingly answers and even gives a date for the release of her next single, new album, and kind of confirmed (doesn?t deny) working with William Orbit?

Vincenzo Mollica interview for RAI

Vincenzo Mollica: When do you expect the new record?
Madonna: I?m working on the new record right now. It?s a nice change. So much easier than making a movie.

Gunnar Rehlin interview for SVT

Gunnar Rehlin: Your next studio album is due out next year. You?re going to start working on it next year, are you?
Madonna: I?ve started a little bit of work in the studio and when I go back to New York, until the end of the year, I?ll be in the recording studio.
Gunnar Rehlin: And William Orbit again? What can we expect this time?
Madonna: More good music.
Gunnar Rehlin: When is it due out?
Madonna: Next year. I think the first single is, I?m not sure, February or March and the the album will come out in spring.
Gunnar Rehlin: Looking forward to it.
Madonna: Yeah I?m looking forward to working on it.

We knew the album release was imminent ? after all, Madonna did inadvertently announce that she will be going on tour sometime soon. At least now we have a bit of a timeline for when we can expect to hear new music. February/March will be here sooner than we like so, yeah, I don?t mind waiting. I am SO excited that she is working with William Orbit again. Ray of Light is one of my fave albums of all time. I have no doubt that he will help her come up with more inventive music. Cannot WAIT!!. Great music news, indeed!

Britney Spears Drops Official 'Till The World Ends' Remix

New track with Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha follows leaked version, plus Brit tweets single's cover art.
By Jocelyn Vena

The "Till the World Ends" Femme Fatale remix
Photo: Jive

Just days after it was leaked on Friday, Britney Spears and her femme fatales, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, dropped their official remix of "Till the World Ends."

The new version of the song was produced by Dr. Luke and Dream Machine. Brit half-whispers " 'Till the World Ends' remix" before the beat kicks in and Nicki hits her verse hard. She spits fierce lines like, "Sniff, sniff, cries/ I done slayed your whole entire f---ing life."

Then Britney's sex-kitten vocals kick in for the song's first verse. "That's Britney, bitch! I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha," the Queens MC declares before K sings the chorus. The beat is harder, the loops are sassier and the song is grimier than the original version, which was the second single from Femme Fatale. The newly added dubstep portion takes the one from "Hold It Against Me" to a new level by adding in bass-heavy synths.

Ke$ha, of course, wrote the track for Britney, and the ladies certainly don't seem to mind sharing the spotlight with each other. The official track isn't much different than the version that leaked over the weekend, though Spears did have something brand-new to share with her fans just as the song dropped on iTunes and streamed on her website.

Spears tweeted the artwork for the single, which features the original press photo of Spears along with separate photos of Nicki on the left and Ke$ha on the right. Spears wrote, "@NickiMinaj @Keshasuxx Too much fierceness for one cover! Thanks for lending your voices girls... #TTWEREMIX — Brit"

Spears and Minaj have been hanging out a lot in the lead-up to their summer tour. They hung out at the Factory nightclub on Friday night after Minaj's show in Los Angeles. Spears later wrote, "Early rehearsal after a late night with my girl @NickiMinaj. Can't WAIT to get out on the road with you."

What do you think of the "Till the World Ends" remix? Tell us in the comments!

Lil Wayne 'Never Had A Moment' Like Closing VMAs

'Drake introduced me, it was great,' Weezy tells MTV News of his 2011 performance.
By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by Jim Cantiello

When last year's Video Music Awards aired, Lil Wayne was in a Rikers Island jail cell serving out an eight-month bid. So when he agreed to participate in this year's VMAs, he knew it had to be big.

Not only did Weezy close out the awards show on Sunday night, he timed his Tha Carter IV for a midnight digital release, so fans could purchase the album shortly after watching him on TV.

"This was actually very important to me," Weezy F. told MTV News correspondent Jim Cantiello after closing the big show. "I've actually never had a moment like this."

Kicking off the performance with "How to Love," Wayne started out subdued. Dressed in a white tee, fedora and black-and-white cheetah-print pants, he crooned the words to the acoustic ballad. But by the end of the first verse, the Young Money CEO went into full-on rock mode, stripping his shirt and tossing his hat as he jammed out to a Black Sabbath-inspired rendition of his street single "John." Wayne even jumped into the crowd and greeted his friend and collaborator on the song, Rick Ross. After making his way back to the stage, the Rebirth rapper picked up a guitar and began to play a few notes before slamming it to the ground in true rock star fashion.

All in all, it seemed to be an enjoyable night for Weezy and his YMCMB family. After Nicki Minaj won Best Hip-Hop Video, Wayne, Birdman, Mack Maine and Tyga happily celebrated in the aisles of the Nokia Theatre.

"This is my first time, period, so I'm just ecstatic, I'm amazed," Wayne said about closing the VMAs. "I already have Moonmen at home, so I was good with that. Nicki Minaj got a Moonman, so that was awesome. I got to perform, Drake introduced me, it was great."

Tell us what you thought of Wayne's VMA performance in the comments below!

Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed set Wedding Date!

Mark your calendars for October 1, as Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed have set a wedding date! Yes, the KISS power-couple will transform their 28-year relationship into an actual marriage with a party at a hotel in Beverly Hills, California. So check your mail for a wedding invitation. For those of you, like myself, who have been watching their Reality TV series, ?Gene Simmons Family Jewels?, this news answers the hanging question of whether or not Shannon said ?Yes? when Gene proposed to her in Belize.

October 1, 2011 is set as the wedding date for Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed. Image Credit: Adriana M. Barraza / WENN.com.

We all like a happy ending and this certain qualifies. Gene and Shannon had a rough year, though Shannon would say a rough three years or so. For a while, it did look like she would leave him now that their children, Nick and Sophie, are both in college. Shannon had had enough of Gene schmoozing with women. The KISS front man is 61 now and a bit long in the tooth to keep up his rock star image. Shannon has also been irritated with Gene?s many business meetings and such. Hopefully he has learned his lesson and will focus more attention to her now.

So October 1, 2011 is the wedding date for Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed. The happy event will take place at a hotel in Beverlry Hills, California. The Kiss power couple have been together for 28 years and will now take their relationship to the level of marriage. You won?t need a wedding invitation as I am sure that the happy occasion will be recorded and aired during the next season of ?Gene Simmons Family Jewels?. I wish them all the best!

Alyssa Milano looks different

65978pc

Alyssa Milano went to a spa in LA earlier today, probably because she needed a massage from carrying around what looks to be a 6 foot tall baby. She announced she was pregnant at the end of February, so she?s probably due any day, but holy christ. Her vagina is gonna look like someone set off M-80?s inside of it.

Michael Kors Gets Mistaken For Marc Jacobs Kind Of A Lot [Rag Trade]

Michael Kors Gets Mistaken For Marc Jacobs Kind Of A LotMichael Kors says his husband, Lance LePere "always says that because I have a sense of humor on television, no one is afraid to approach me. This has happened twice already, but about a month ago, we were walking near our apartment and these kids, who were maybe 18 or 19, walked behind us. The girl says to me, ?I know who you are,' and the guy goes, ?Oh my god, oh my god.' The girl says, ?Marc, I love you.'" Because all gay fashion designers look alike... [WWD]

Michael Kors Gets Mistaken For Marc Jacobs Kind Of A LotThe Blonds, who make the craziest corsets you've ever seen and do things at their shows like have models walk in gorilla suits down the runway while Alan Cumming watches, say that this season their collection is inspired by vintage Playboy. "There's so much history to this magazine and Hugh Hefner, and he's done so much for civil rights and for the women's movement," says designer David Blond. [The Cut]
  • Tumblr sent a "proposal" for fashion week coverage to all the major fashion brands in New York City with a menu for coverage and a corresponding pricelist. For $100,000 a fashion house could, for example, get four of Tumblr's "select bloggers" to produce 15 posts for that brand's Tumblr over the course of fashion week, with the "exact nature of the content to be agreed upon prior to the start of the week." (CC: FTC!) An ad on the official NYFW Tumblr costs $150,000. An ad on the "Fashion" Tumblr tag page would set you back $350,000. Just sitting down with the 20 bloggers Tumblr is "sending" to fashion week at a "private event" would cost a brand $10,000. (Ten thousand dollars to show some bloggers your stuff? Who are they kidding!) Said one angry PR, "They clearly don't understand the first thing about ad buying. They didn't explain how these ads would be served or offer us any way to track them, even through a third party. How am I supposed to present that to a client?" A similarly incensed designer, also anonymous, said, "they are trying to have us pay for Tumblr bloggers to come to our shows, which is ridiculous. We would never pay a journalist to come cover us, so why would we pay Tumblr?" Very good question! Tumblr has yet to comment. [NYObs]
  • Oh, and by the way: Those "select bloggers" whose services Tumblr offered to brands for $100,000? They say they had no idea about the proposal, and it's not clear that Tumblr ever intended to pass any of that revenue on to the writers. Tumblr still had no comment. [NYObs]
  • Meanwhile, Raman Kia, the head of digital marketing at the PR agency Starworks, hit out on his (Wordpress!) blog. He tells of having a meeting with Rich Tong and one of Starworks' clients, which he won't name but calls "one of the largest online retailers of luxury fashion globally." (A glance at the agency's client page suggests it was Net-A-Porter.) "So, it came as a surprise to my client that the person representing Tumblr at this meeting had no idea who my client was," writes Kia. "Let me just put this in perspective: This is one of the biggest retailer of luxury fashion in the world (did I already say that?) ? and probably one of the most reputable and prestigious. It's like saying I am the Director of Automotive but I've never heard of BMW or Mercedes!" Another time, Kia planned an event with Tumblr for a "highly known fashion retailer," when at the last minute, "Tumblr simply pulled out and gave the event to another brand that they preferred to work with." Hiring a fashion director who doesn't know what Net-A-Porter is sure sounds like a great way to run a business. [The Social Warrior]
  • Some schools are relaxing their dress codes because kids, they just want to express themselves! "At first they couldn't accessorize, but then again, how do you tell someone what color shoes to buy? That's ridiculous," says a principal who clearly lacks the courage of her convictions. The section of our school uniform rules devoted to footwear was like four paragraphs!* That's "how" you tell people what shoes to wear, you write it down. *And that is why we do not wear brown non-patent leather buckle/lace-up closed-toe flats even now. Well we remember the day when we were 12 and our parents bought us our regulation shoes ? two sizes too big, so we could wear them every M-F through graduation. Which we did. "They're teenagers. If you take it all away, you get rebellion," continues the principal. Sweet, sweet rebellion. You can fit so much rebellion in a regulation pinafore! You've never rebelled until you've walked to the bus after school not wearing your blazer. Why are they denying these kids their rightful due of rebellion? [NYTimes]
  • Courtney Love tells Sam Taylor-Wood in the latest issue of V, "You're my hero. I'll tell you why: You beat cancer twice, your body of work is brilliant, and you're the only person who has never taken a bad picture of me." [P6]
  • There's a rumor that Elle Fanning, Dakota Fanning, and Sofia Coppola are the only celebrities invited to Marc Jacobs' show this season. [Fashionista]
  • Angelina Jolie supposedly spent $2,000 in 15 minutes at an FCUK store. They still have FCUK stores? [Heat]
  • After a judge rejected Madonna's lawyers' argument that because she recorded a hit song called "Material Girl" in 1984, she should have a right to the trademark on the phrase, a lawsuit brought against Madge and Iconix Brand Group will head to court in October. Iconix licenses a Madonna fashion line aimed at tweens called Material Girl, but a pre-existing tween fashion brand also named Material Girl, which launched in 1997, sued Iconix and Madonna for trademark infringement. • The Victoria & Albert Museum says it would love to host a version of the Met's massively successful "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" show. The V&A has spoken to the luxury company, but no deal has been reached. [Vogue UK]
  • John Galliano will probably not be in court on September 8 to hear the verdict delivered in his criminal trial for hate speech in Paris. [Fashionologie]
  • Carine Roitfeld, interviewed about her forthcoming book in this week's New York Times Magazine, denies that she was fired from Vogue Paris after advertisers reacted with horror to the December/January "Age" issue guest-edited by Tom Ford. (That would be the one with this controversial editorial.) Roitfeld is more comfortable talking about shoes she hates: "I hate mules. I hate the noise when someone walks with mules. Clomp, clomp, clomp. I think it's very not chic. I don't even like a flip-flop. I don't like this noise. I don't think I've used mules one time in a story." [NYTimes]
  • Valentino Garavani says his life might be the basis of a musical. "We're looking at the possibility of taking my story to Broadway, as a musical." [Telegraph]
  • Male model Sebastian Sauv has some advice for aspiring models: "Don't do it until you've had a few years of life first. And no one should go up to a girl and tell her she could be a model until she's at least 18. I have a friend with a 13-year-old younger sister who heard she could model, but 'had to lose weight,' so now she's been in the hospital for four months because she almost killed herself from not eating. All because some asshole went up to her and told her she could model." [The Cut]
  • This video ? concept: walking fingers show off Chanel's nail polish colors by dancing to "Little Bitty Pretty One" ? is pretty cute. [YouTube]
  • Lucky put together a nifty roundup of fashion industry people to follow on Twitter. Models, designers, retailers, PR folks, writers, editors, bloggers, publications ? they're all here. [Lucky]
  • In a preview for the latest season of her reality show, celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe says of her old assistant Brad Goreski, "It's not the first time I've been used. I would say it's going to be the last time, though." Dramatic pause. [The Cut]
  • Liz Claiborne, which has been trying to turn itself around in the downturn, offloaded its Mexx brand to a company called the Gores Group for $85 million in cash. That'll probably take care of about $25 million of Liz Claiborne's before-tax losses this year. [WWD]

Justin Bieber Joins Taylor Swift Onstage In L.A.

Teen heartthrob surprised concertgoers when he joined Swift for a duet on 'Baby' Tuesday night.

Justin Bieber is all about surprises this summer. Back in July, the 17-year-old pop superstar took fans by surprise when he joined Selena Gomez onstage in Costa Mesa, California, and on Tuesday night, he made another unexpected appearance when he joined Taylor Swift onstage for a duet of his hit "Baby" at her Speak Now tour stop in Los Angeles.

Video footage of the duo's performance at the Staples Center hit the Internet shortly after the concert. It shows the music superstars sharing song verses and Bieber spitting a brief rap midway through the number.

Swift took to Twitter hours later to applaud her roaring concert audience and their overwhelming reaction to the Bieb's surprise appearance. "Dear amazing LA crowd tonight, God only knows what I'd be without you," she wrote. "You think you've heard LOUD screaming in your life. Then @justinbieber comes out and does a surprise song during your show. Woah. Unreal."

Bieber responded to the country-pop darling, tweeting, "@taylorswift13 we should do that more often. :) great show! #muchlove."

It was nothing but love as Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, also chimed in on the surprise concert cameo. "Had to keep it a secret all day. But @justinbieber just came out and sang BABY with @taylorswift13 at STAPLES. EPIC ROAR! #greatmoment," he wrote on Twitter.

Bieber also recently collaborated with Chris Brown. Earlier this month, the Video Music Award nominee showed off his rap skills on "Ladies Love Me," a track that appears on Breezy's Boy in Detention mixtape.

'Conan The Barbarian': The Reviews Are In!

While critics prefer the remake to Arnold Schwarzenegger's original, reviews aren't glowing.
By Terri Schwartz

Photo: Lionsgate Entertainment

"Conan the Barbarian" isn't trying to pull any punches. From the beginning, the remake of the 1982 cult classic proclaims that its lead lives, loves, slays and is content. And critics are saying that's exactly what you get in theaters.

Reviews haven't necessarily been positive, with critics complaining about the script and the one-dimensional characters. But they seem to agree that Jason Momoa did a better job in the title role than Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the movie is fun — at least as a mindless summer blockbuster. It might not be worth spending the extra money to see the flick in 3-D, but the fighting is good and gory if that's what fans are looking for.

But don't let us tell you what to think. Before you head to theaters to watch "Conan the Barbarian," find out what the critics thought of "Conan the Barbarian" in our review round-up:

The Script
"With a script so pat and humor-free, Momoa has little to do but sneer and slice. The film informs us that Conan has the heart of a lion and 'the loyalty of a bloodhound,' but we get nary a sniff of that in this carnage fest. He's built like a tank, but Conan emotes like one, too." — Scott Bowles, USA Today

The Effects
"This 'Conan' plods along, regularly erupting in action scenes that make scant visual sense in two dimensions and none at all in 3-D. The few that stick out involve supernatural beasties; there's one ferocious battle against warriors made of sand that combines athletic parkour and digital effects to surprisingly exciting ends. Other than that, it's tame stuff, and there's little sense of the larger mythical stage the hero strides across." — Ty Burr, The Boston Globe

The Remake
"The original 'Conan' was a sloppy, grandiose, unforgivable muckbath directed by the (I say the words lovingly) right-wing maniac John Milius. I watched it about four times to make sure it had no redeeming qualities. The reboot (re-sandal?) isn't good either, exactly. But it has a certain commitment to its cause, and by that I mean it supplies the necessary flayings, slayings, beheadings and, um, a be-nose-ing, all of it dancing to the tune of those amusingly stilted He-Man declaratives — King James Bible cadences applied to comic-book visions. It knows it's a B movie, and gets on with it." — Kyle Smith, The New York Post

The Schwarzenegger Connection
"In this dank ultimate-fighting challenge, Jason Momoa as Conan provides the only visual vivacity; he has an eye-catchingly sensuous face atop the requisite statuesque beefcake. Much more than Schwarzenegger in his early Teutonic-slab phase, Momoa nicely fulfills the law of Hollywood Darwinism: survival of the dishiest. Such is his sex appeal that he almost brings plausibility to the movie's silliest scene, when Conan tells Tamara, 'I live, I love, I slay, and I am content,' and the virgin instantly falls into his arms. Guys bringing their dates to this murky holocaust are advised not to try using Conan's credo as a pickup line." — Richard Corliss, Time

The Final Word
" 'Conan the Barbarian,' starring the excellent rippling chisel of Jason Momoa, is brutal, bloody beyond belief, and has no socially redeeming value. So it is with a certain amount of guilt that I say it's kind of a wicked blast to watch, especially if you're in the mood for some righteous revenge." — Betsy Sharkey, The Los Angeles Times

Paz de la Huerta?s Agent Provocateur ad campaign: sleazy hot or just gross?

pazapa

I am genuinely perplexed, people. Whenever Paz de la Huerta gives one of her crazy interviews or gets into a drunken fight, I get really excited. Even though I?d never want to be alone in the same room as this bitch, news of Paz genuinely makes me happy for some reason. And like many of you, I accidentally mistook Trace Cyrus for Paz (btw, Kaiser thinks they should totally make a kid together too) when he recently knocked up his girlfriend, which just added another delicious dimension to the Paz phenomenon. So I was absolutely beside myself to learn that Paz has been named ?Campaign Star? the new Autumn Winter 2011 lingerie line for Agent Provocateur.

Of course, Agent Provocateur has been though a number of celebrity spokesmodels, including Kate Moss and Maggie Gyllenhaal, in recent years, but Paz really stands out. I hope this isn?t just a one-off deal and that Paz becomes a permanent fixture at AP because, quite frankly, this is a match made in hot-mess heaven. The next photo montage arrives with the following caption: ?A lady knows how to turn a fall into a rise. Paz de la Huerta easily transforms a stumble into a dramatic moment, with her Sidonie underwear on show.? LMAO.

pazapc

The rest of the photoshoot is pretty epic too and features Paz applying her gross lipstick in the back of a car as well as flapping her arms around like a crazed bird. I. Love. It. Not that this campaign will make me buy Agent Provocateur?s overpriced, tacky lingerie, but still, this is pretty damn awesome and classic Paz.

VMAs Backstage: Five Things You Didn't See

Find out what happened backstage at the 2011 MTV VMAs.
By Kara Warner, with additional reporting by Matt Elias and Jim Cantiello

Beyoncé
Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images

For all the unforgettable moments that occurred onstage during the VMAs on Sunday night, there were just as many equally amazing happenings that went down behind-the-scenes. Thanks to our VIP connections, MTV News had access to everything that happened before, after and during the live broadcast. Therefore, in no particular order, we are proud to present five moments you didn't get to see:

Gaga's Gentlemanly Behavior Leaves Celebs Starstruck
As is her M.O., Lady Gaga's presence at the VMAs was a highlight in and of itself, and every celeb who encountered her had a wide-eyed story to tell of his/her encounter. Particularly Foo Fighter Dave Grohl's first introduction to Gaga as her alter ego Jo Calderone.

"I got to meet her for the first time tonight [as Jo Calderone]," Grohl said of meeting Gaga when he went to say hello to Queen guitarist Brian May, who performed with her during the show. "I was like, 'Brian May, what's up!' and she was right next to him and I said, 'Hi, I'm Dave,' and she goes 'I know who the f--- you are!' Yeah, it was rad."

We spotted Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and more hanging out backstage!

Another Gaga-centric highlight occurred during one of the commercial breaks, when Gaga as the confident ladies' man Jo Calderone (or Gago, as Twitter users tagged him last night) took a cigarette from behind his ear, lit it and smoothly passed it to Adele.

'Jersey Shore' Stars Make Friends Everywhere They Go
As part of the MTV family, the stars of "Jersey Shore" have become welcome additions to any and all of our awards shows. We witnessed the ladies of Seaside Heights — JWoww, Snooki and Deena — palling around with new BFF, none other than "High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens. Later on we spotted them crossing paths with Jared Leto, which produced the following exchange: JWoww to Jared Leto: "Wow. I'm a huge fan! 'The Kill' is my favorite!" Leto: "Thank you so much!" Snooki, once they had passed the 30 Seconds to Mars frontman: "Aah?" To which Jenni replied, "That was Jared Leto. Don't you know who Jared Leto is?!"

Tyler, The Creator's Accidental Stage Dive Sends Him Into Unlikely Arms
Immediately following their win for Best New Artist, the many members of Odd Future and their assorted entourage were trying to shuffle off the circular stage, when suddenly there was a loud noise and everyone in the audience in the right section gasped. It was clear from the commotion that a member from Future had fallen off the stage. When the dust finally settled, we saw two unexpected heroes holding frontman Tyler, the Creator up: Kanye West and Kid Cudi.

Go behind-the-scenes with Wiz Khalifa, Kreayshawn and more at the VMA Pre-Show!

"It was really hard, but [the tears] came out when I fell offstage into Kanye's arms," Tyler half-joked as he processed the emotions surrounding his win and his almost fall.

Jay Z And Beyoncé Celebrate Baby News
Arguably the newsiest moment of the evening occurred when Beyoncé announced that she was pregnant, with a not-so-subtle rubbing of her belly at the end of her performance. Immediately following the big moment, Beyoncé and Jay-Z were enveloped backstage by ecstatic well-wishers including Kanye West, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. One of the sweeter of those moments was when Jay stepped outside Beyoncé's dressing room, to allow her some time with her female friends to gush and squeal over the news. The proud and sweet smile on his face when he did so made for our favorite VMA warm fuzzy moment.

BONUS: VMA Recap With MTV News' Jim Cantiello MTV News correspondent Jim Cantiello does many things well, but his 60-second recaps of important events in pop culture are a must-watch. Check out Cantiello's super-speedy recap that includes analysis of Gaga as Calderone, what gets a hard-to-impress Justin Bieber to applaud VMA performers and Beyoncé's big announcement.

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Stick with MTV News for winners, fashion pics, video and behind-the-scenes stories about everything that went down. Visit VMA.MTV.com for the latest.
